  1. This was a great way to start my Newbery year. I really enjoyed this book. Ally is a vibrant, warm character that you instantly want to hug. She speaks about her difficulties in school using language that makes her pain apparent. The classroom of Mr. Daniels becomes to safest place Ally could find with other classmates with oddities to make them believable. At this point, I think this book could win Newbery, but it’s too soon to tell.
