  1. Comment from Kayla:
The Honest Truth was a brilliant novel that had a lot of different emotions which made you think. My favorite criterion of this book is the writing style. I felt and pondered each emotion experienced by Mark. I loved how each photograph and haiku portrayed an importance or feeling. The setting was very descriptive, especially the photos Mark took. Mark was very developed throughout the book. I’m pretty sure the theme was “the strength inside of you.” At first, Mark was just willing to just give up and kill himself due to his cancer. Although, Mark proved his strength by conquering every obstacle in his journey to Mount Rainier. This might not be as fancy as some of the other books, but this book has a chance at winning the Newbery!! That’s the honest truth!
