  1. This book is about a girl who accidentally brings her mother’s lunch bag to school. That lunch bag has a paring knife in it to cut an apple with. The main character, Sierra, immediately turns in the knife because her school has a “zero tolerance” policy, but she is suspended anyway. Sierra’s father, a successful lawyer, gets tons of publicity for his daughter’s case. The characters and the plot in this book were probably the strongest criteria in the book. I really enjoyed it, but I’m undecided whether or not it’ll win the Mock Newbery.
