  1. I think this book was trying to be scary, but I didn’t really think that it was. Of course, when you’re writing a “horror” book for 10-year-olds and even younger, you can’t make the book too scary. The characters in this book were pretty well developed. The setting was the best part of the book because it was described very well. Overall, though, I don’t think that this is the Mock Newbery winner.
