  1. I thought that there were a lot of loose ends in this book. For the first half it seemed like the story was about how Hope was a horrible inventor and the author was setting it up so that she would get better. Then bandits come into the town and Hope and her friends have to go to another town to get help. I did enjoy this book, but I would call it a fun read, not the Newbery.
