  1. In this book, I felt that time flowed too quickly. In one chapter it would be 1930, and in the next it would be 1931, then 1932, and so on. So just as I was getting involved in Abby’s ten year old life, she would be eleven and have a new sibling. I did think that the characters were pretty well developed, and I felt for Abby when bad things happened. The setting was well described, as well. I liked the book for a fun read, but I wouldn’t say this is a Newbery winner.
