  1. The author did a good job connecting this book with the first one. I could barely tell it was a sequel. Characters are my favorite in this book; they developed throughout it. Setting was important, and the author treated it as such, describing the necessary details, painting that unique portrait in the reader’s mind. Despite all this, it didn’t quite tick like a newbery winner.
