Summary: When Liza’s brother, Patrick, changes overnight, Liza knows exactly what has happened: The spindlers have gotten to him and stolen his soul. She knows, too, that she is the only one who can save him. To rescue Patrick, Liza must go Below, where she uncovers a world populated with talking rats, music-loving moles, as well as terrible dangers. But she will face her greatest challenge at the spindlers’ nests, where she encounters the evil queen and must pass a series of deadly tests, or else her soul, too, will remain Below forever.

Average in the Newbery qualities, but not distinguised, so I vote no.
A lot of people were saying that this is a great book, the newbery. They said that it was better than Son with a similar plot because in both books the main characters were trying to get to someone they are related to, her son in Son and in The Spindlers her brother, but i don’t understand this. It seemed average and predictable, I connected with the character and i could relate to her, but no more than i did in Son or in The Seven Tales of Trinket, which is another really similar book. In some ways i liked the Seven Tales of Trinket better. The writting style seemed more descriptive and realistic and made me want to read on, but in The Spindlers it seemed more of a fun read for younger kids. This is not my pick for the newbery.
