The Great Unexpected, by Sharon Creech

Summary:  Humorous and heartfelt, this is a story of pairs–of Sybil and Nula (now estranged sisters who grew up together in Ireland) and Naomi and Lizzie (both orphans in present-day USA) and unraveling mysteries about family and identity.

  1. This was a unique book, a little bit wierd. I normally love Sharon Creech’s books, but this one surprisingly is not one of the best books of the year. For one, i did not really connect with the characters and the plot wasn’t very clear. Plus, i never figured out who the Finn character was and how he happened to fall out of a tree in USA when he was from and orchard in Ireland.

  2. Yeah, the beginning was unclear, confusing at times, and I didn’t get to know the characters well. I have read a few of Creech’s books and they seemed to flow better. Didn’t make my top seven so I say no for the Newbery honor/medal.

  3. I agree with the first two replies of how the beginning was unclear, but I thought that as you read the book the things that didn’t make sense before came together and I understood it. Overall this book was great and I think more people should read it.
