  1. This book is a great example of why I love Shannon Hale. The characters developed pretty well and I love the main character, Miri. Shannon Hale has created an enchanting place that I wish I could live in. Though it is a sequel, the book would probably do very well on its own. I, however, consider myself lacking in judgement of that because I have read The Princess Academy. I felt the book had a great plot idea and has vivid description. I also found the end very satisfying. I’d recommend this book for late elementary and middle/ junior high girls. I think that this book could win Newbery.
