Another one of Nancy Yi Fan’s books about birds. Truthfully? I have read and liked all the books she has written. Including the one she started when she was eleven. But now that I have been trained to look for Newbery qualities, I realize it isn’t that outstanding. I mean if you are a bird fanatic or animal lover and you were looking for a fun read, this would be the book for you. On the other hand, if you were a teacher looking for books that your students would learn from, I wouldn’t recommend this book. So I vote this no for Newbery.
This is the first book i have read by this author. My ten year old sister loved it, but i found it the same as most bird books. It was really similar to the book series The Guardians of Ga’hoole by Katherine Lasky.
I liked how the birds thought and acted just like humans think and act, other than when the birds fly, you could have been reading a book with people in it instead of birds. i recommend it for fourth through sixth graders who like animal books.
Loved this!!!!!!!! I can picture it so well. It captured me and i finished it way faster than most other books (i don’t like reading,) becuase i was so engrossed. I agree that it was kind of like the Gaurdians of Ga’Hoole which i am in the middle of reading. That might even be the reason i liked this book so much because it was like that series which i thought was the greatest, (so my coment doesn’t help much for the newbery nomination i just want people to read it this book.) There were no parts that i did not like, but maybe for people who aren’t
“bird fanatics or animal lovers” (like me) this might not be so outstanding.
