  1. I think we need more readers for this one! It’s historical fiction, but with some unique science fiction twists. I really liked this writer’s style and voice.

  2. This one had enough tension where it kept me going along trying to figure out what things meant. I so did not see the ending coming even though there was plenty of foreshadowing.

  3. This book did not confuse me as much as I expected it to. In fact, I even guessed part of the ending about halfway through the book. And, in the end, it made sense. I thought the topics were certainly interesting. The one thing that I didn’t like about the book was that a few of the relationships were a little rushed, almost seeming to pop out of nowhere and added absolutely nothing to the story. Other than that, it was a very good book.

  4. I was confused in several parts of this book. I had to think a lot to understand the ending. The story was wonderful until the end, which really ruined the book for me. I also wasn’t impressed with the writing quality or style, so I don’t think this book is Newbery worthy.

  5. This has a plot and writing style which I doubt anyone has seen before. The main character is more real than any character I have seen, and all parts of the book just… work.

  6. Although this book won, I didn’t enjoy it that much. It was very confusing and even though I liked A Wrinkle In Time, this one didn’t appeal to me as much. But it was still good… I don’t think it should’ve won.

  7. When I presented this book back at the WRL/EVA Newbery Club double meeting, I KNEW I’d read something special! The plot was an engaging combination of Historical Fiction and Fantasy, with just enough tension to keep everything moving along. The ending was fantastic, and all the pieces of the plot fit together perfectly. 5 star!
